First off, WOW.
Due to the overwhelming support in the form of online voting, our very own Joy of Union LA fame and fam made her way to the Western Finals. Her last opponent Joe Hahn of Linkin Park was a formidable adversary and the fight for the 4th bracket was a very close one indeed. Union took the W with a total of 52% of the votes. Joe, we applaud your participation and more so the L. Har har. Give it up for Mr. Hahn folks...

Prior to the day's battle, the anticipated release of the Air Yeezys went down as well.
Before the battle took place Joy warms up with a test victory high 5 with an off camera Sasquatch that goes by the name of Arsen.
Reprising his role as corner man we have KB. Clearly steady hands of steel in for the support.
This round consisted of 5 minutes of design time start to finish. Pressure much?
Each week the contestants are given a design theme to stem their creations. The theme for today was the infamous series of multiple fires that plagued a massive portion of California last summer. If you were here and remember, the skies were burnt of dark orange, the smell of smoke lasted for days on end and huge flakes of ash were everywhere. It was like being on the set of Lord of The Rings. It sucked.
And they're off!
This week's canvas on deck is the legendary AirMax 97. One of my all time personal faves. Let's see how things shape up.

This week's opponent goes by the handle Tavoh. He's got is work cut for him folks. Joy has been on a vicious sweep thru the field and it may get ugly for you brother.

Last Saturday marked a very intensive heat in the Nike ID Battle Royal Series. It being the 3rd week in a 4 week elimination. This week of voting [for Joy] will set the stage for the Western finals. Who will win? [Joy]
Here we have Joy representing Union Los Angeles, part of the long standing team on La Brea and 1st. Her stand-in corner man for this round was none other than KB. The faces of confidence are staring you in the eye Joe!
Round 3 consisted of taking a shot at the Nike Airstab. Start to finish colorups in 7 minutes. WTF!
Joy and KB worked at fever pitch to create the deathblow in the form of a sneaker that will in the end, knock Joe right out of the race. Out of the park. Linkin. Joy, here in confident form during the final minutes while KB holds his cornerman duties to the very end seconds. Absolute cold hearted machines I tell ya.
And just like that. 7 crucial minutes are gone in history and you can never get them back Joe. Perhaps if they gave you another 5 minutes to work it out. Hm. Joy inking the deal on her latest Union creation.
The tension here is strong enough to snap the neck on a charging rhino high on Peanut M&M's. Yeesh.

And there you have it. The Union Airstab by Joy on the lower left. It's quite obvious the select choice between the two entries. In a strange and unconventional move, Joe made his Airstab with a big honking red X going directly over it. Ok. Sure. Where as with Joy's work of magnificence, not only can you vote for the shoe, sending her into the Western final [thanks in advance] but you can also purchase it as well. The shoe has this signature dazzle feature when worn, as you can clearly see. It actually kicks blinding lens flares into the eyes of innocent bystanders. Quite brilliant.

Starting this last past Saturday, Nike hosted a design battle that will extend for the next 3 Saturdays at the Montalban Theater. Much like March Madness, there's a line up of competitors on the EAST and the WEST running eliminations to the next bracket.
Each Saturday the advancing winner will ID a different shoe model. This past Saturday was the Dunk High. Pretty interesting. The finals will be held in NYC.
Joy repping Union as expected and she brought in her corner man Eddie.
And as you can see he's very concentrated at this moment.
Each heat is for 15 minutes. Pressure cooked!
